Above is one of the monsters for a game I'm working on called "Smokin' Weeds".  This monster was designed to be a "Knife Weed".  While it was created as the easiest monster in the game to fight, I still wanted the monster to look disturbing. This would be one of the four monsters created and was designed as a medium range creature.
This was the original sketch of the Knife Weed, it's a scrawny creature to make it feel weaker than the other weeds in the game. I had to visualize what it would look like in a pot and at first, I imagined it having a knife coming out of its hand, but opted to go for clawed fingers instead.

I made the creature humanoid and without legs and wrapped its endoskeleton with tapered curves.
I made 6 animations for it to reflect the actions it would take in-game: spawning, idling, attacking, getting hurt, dying, and a victory animation for when the player dies.
For the image render, I created a wooden environment with a pot. I used the shader to the left (see: Knife Weed Shader) and the grease pencil to create the render below.
